Jay Z recently performed his Magna Carta Holy Grail track ‘Picasso Baby’ over and over for six hours straight at NYC’s Pace Gallery, and director Mark Romanek has now cut that footage into a short “performance art piece” that premiered on HBO last night. The clip is bookended by interviews with Jay in which he ponders the divide between hip-hop and art, and the energetic audience features an eclectic group of high profile artists — including Judd Apatow, Alan Cumming, Fab Five Freddy, George Condo, Rosie Perez, Jim Jarmusch, Taraji P. Henson, Adam Driver, Jemima Kirke, Cynthia Rowley, Michael K. Williams, Pablo Picasso’s granddaughter Diana Widmaier Picasso, Wale, and Marina Abramović, whose dance with Jay is undoubtedly the highlight here.
